Synopsis A deliciously woven story of five women working together in their local beauty parlour. Beautiful Layal is oblivious to the gaze of a local admirer and instead fixates on a married man. Nisreen is soon to be married, but is afraid her fiancé will discover he isn’t her first lover. Rima has designs on one of her customers. Jamale is a struggling aspiring actress doing anything she can to retain her youth. Rose has sacrificed her life to take care of her elderly sister and is overwhelmed when she discovers love for the first time. As the women from different generations share in each others' experiences and emotions, the beauty parlour becomes a colourful hub where intimate stories play out.
Director Profile Director Nadine Labaki is a Lebanese actress and director. In 2007, Labaki co-wrote, directed, and starred in her feature-film debut, Caramel, which became an international sensation at film festivals and went on to achieve box office success. The film garnered Labaki much acclaim as both a director and actress, and put her on Variety’s 10 Directors to Look Out For.
Actor Profile Yasmine Al Massri is a Palestinian actress, video artist and dancer living in Paris. She played the leading role in Pomegranates and Myrrh by Najwa Najjar, which won the Cinema in Motion Award at the San Sebastain International Film Festival. Her other roles in films successful internationally include the award winning Caramel (2007) by Nadine Labaki.
